Summary:
HB 1682 requires a pharmacist to notify a child’s parent or legal guardian if the pharmacist provides a child less than 16 years of age with emergency contraception. The bill provides that if the pharmacist provides emergency contraception to a child less than 16 years of age, the pharmacist shall notify one of the child’s parents or a legal guardian of the child. Notification shall be by certified mail, sent within 48 hours of dispensing the drug. The notice shall include the name of the child, the common and scientific names of the drug, the dosage dispensed, a description of the drug’s possible side effects, the date dispensed, the name, address, and phone number of the pharmacy, and the name of the pharmacist.

Summary:
SB 30 authorizes pharmacists with appropriate training and who are working in collaboration with an authorized prescriber to initiate emergency contraception oral drug therapy in order to increase timely access to emergency contraception. The bill authorizes this practice in accordance with standardized procedures or protocols. The bill requires a pharmacist to successfully complete emergency contraception drug therapy education and training in accordance with continuing education requirements established by the board. The measure also requires a pharmacist to provide a fact sheet that includes the indications for the use of the drug, the appropriate method for using the drug, information on the importance of follow-up health care, and health care referral information.

Summary:
